| Players Auction Wraps Up 75h Anniversary Year The Peterborough Players’ annual Auction – “Take A Walk Down Memory Lane” - is twenty years old this year, making it the longest running and certainly the biggest event of its kind in the region. Scheduled to take place at the theatre on Saturday, November 1st, the auction is expected to sparkle as the concluding event of the Players’ Diamond Jubilee anniversary year. To honor the theatre’s history, auction-goers are invited (but not required) to come dressed in the attire of their favorite decade of the past 75 years. Todd Almond and Friends on October 25 The Peterborough Players welcomes home actor/singer/pianist/songwriter Todd Almond in a special concert presentation entitled “Todd Almond and Friends” at 8:00 PM Saturday, October 25 at the Players Theatre, 55 Hadley Road in Peterborough. This concert is presented as part of the theatre’s year-long 75th Anniversary celebration. Lindsay Crouse performs The Belle of Amherst at the from September 17 to 28 Academy Award nominated actress Lindsay Crouse will perform the one-woman show "The Belle of Amherst" from September 17 to September 28 at the Peterborough Players. The play is based on the life and writings of Emily Dickinson, and makes use of her work, diaries, and letters to recollect encounters with significant people in her life. The play had a very successful run on Broadway in 1976-77. Peterborough Players Present Doubt: A Parable Opening September 3rd and running till the 14th the Peterborough Players are proud to present DOUBT: A PARABLE by Oscar winning writer John Patrick Shanley. “Truth tends to make a bad sermon...” says the accused priest in the achingly taut DOUBT. Set in 1964, at a Bronx Catholic School, Doubt tells the story of a strong-minded nun who wrestles with her conscience in the face of concerns about one of the priests. Sister Aloysius (played by film and television star Linda Kelsey) reveals her initial doubts about the enigmatic Father Flynn (Player’s favorite Kraig Swartz) to Sister James (Karron Graves), an inexperienced but enthusiastic young nun. As her suspicions grow, a verbal battle of wills begins. Doubt ran for 2 years on Broadway and in 2005 won a Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award for Best New Play. John Patrick Shanley also wrote the Oscar-winning screenplay for Moonstruck. Players Continue “Rush for All” The Peterborough Players would like to announce a special deal for their summer audiences. We have expanded our Rush Ticket program. In addition to our Student Rush, where single tickets to any subscription series performance are available one hour before curtain for only $15 with a valid student ID (includes high school and full time college students), the first Thursday performance of each show will feature “Rush for All”. This means anyone can see a show for $15 on the first Thursday by taking advantage of Rush Tickets one hour before the performance. Private Lives at the Peterborough Players PRIVATE LIVES, a comedy by Noel Coward, is the third show of the Peterborough Players season and runs from July 16 – 27. A classic comedy of bad manners, dry humor and quicksilver sparring that is both daringly hilarious and elegantly sexy; PRIVATE LIVES is widely considered Coward’s greatest comedy. Stones In His Pockets comes to the Peterborough Players on July 2 The award-winning comedy Stones in His Pockets is the second show in the Peterborough Players celebrated 75th Anniversary season opening Wednesday, July 2. Winner of London’s prestigious Olivier Award for Best New Comedy and favored with multiple Tony nominations for its run on Broadway; the show satirizes Hollywood film-making in a rural Irish town. Featuring two actors who play 15 roles in what Time magazine called “a triumph of breathtaking virtuosity,” Stones in His Pockets plays in Peterborough through July 13. Don’t forget about “Rush-for-All” on Thursday the 3rd, tickets are $15 one hour before the show. And if you miss that, there is a special deal for the 4th of July as well: 2 tickets for $40. The summer season opens with NOBODY DON’T LIKE YOGI, a one-man show by Thomas Lysaght running June 18 - 29. This wonderful show will showcase the talents of David Howard who will be remembered for his portrayal of Mr. Green in VISITING MR.GREEN last season. It is the story of Yankee legend Yogi Berra. But it covers much more than his life in the dreaded pinstripes. It is a celebration of its namesake’s humor, loyalty and wisdom as the most quotable athlete of our time. It weaves together a portrait of a player, father, and friend, which demonstrates the importance of trusting your convictions. High Schools Provide Talent for Players Production of Harvey Thanks to a grant from the Goyette Fund of the New Hampshire Charitable Fund as well as strong community support, the Players will produce the Ascending Stars Project, HARVEY, its eighth collaborative project with area schools. Past productions have included: A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM, PEG O’ MY HEART, LIGHT UP THE SKY, LA DISPUTE, LOVE’S LABOURS LOST, MUSEUM, and last year’s critical success PICNIC. This year’s production will feature the best in local high school talent working alongside professional actors, directors, designers, and technicians. This production is scheduled for June 5 through June 8. At the 2008 Annual Meeting on February 16, the Peterborough Players announced its 75th Anniversary season of plays to be produced at its historic theatre on Hadley Road. Season highlights include the return of James Whitmore Senior and Junior, two Pulitzer Prize winners, a legendary catcher, 3 British comedies, a timeless poet and, for the second year, a seventh show in the mainstage season. There will also be two shows for young audiences that will be produced and performed by the Players Second Company of interns and apprentices. There are also a number of 75th Anniversary events throughout the summer including: A Family/Children’s day July 12th, Players Alumni Weekend August 1 – 3, and a kickoff Cabaret with Lucie Arnaz on May 17th. The formal purpose of the meeting is to elect trustees for the year 2008 and announce the 2008 season. While all who have an interest in the Players are invited, voting members of the corporation are considered to be those who made a cash contribution to the company in 2007, who purchased a subscription in 2007, or who purchased a ticket to a 2007 production. Artistic Director Gus Kaikkonen will see auditions from members of Actors’ Equity, non-Equity local actors, and from those interested in joining the Players’ Second Company as an intern or apprentice. In addition to these sessions for the regular season, the Players will also see students interested in participating in its highly successful Ascending Stars collaborative project with area high school students. Read More> Visiting Mr. Green Playwright, Jeff Baron, to Attend Opening Night The Peterborough Players is proud to announce that the internationally renowned and award winning author, Jeff Baron, will be on hand at the opening of his play Visiting Mr. Green on June 20th. His first play, VISITING MR. GREEN, opened Off-Broadway in December 1997 at the Union Square Theatre. Starring Eli Wallach and David Alan Basche, it ran for 354 performances and brought Baron national and international recognition. VISITING MR. GREEN has been performed in 27 countries and in 21 languages. It was nominated as Best Play by The Drama League, and has since received Best Play awards in Israel, Greece, Germany and Turkey. In Peterborough the roles will be played by veteran film and television actor David S. Howard as Mr. Green, and longtime Players acting company member Kraig Swartz. Opening on August 12 and running till August 19, THE SECRET GARDEN tells the heartwarming story of how a single child can transform the lives of those around her.
