Director of Advancement
Peterborough Players
The Director of Advancement will be responsible for planning and ensuring implementation of all fundraising for the Peterborough Players including major gifts, annual giving, planned giving, special events, and comprehensive campaigns.
As an established and successful theatre, many of the fundamentals for a development program are in place-- donor database of regular supporters, success with fundraising events, consistent annual fund support, etc. The Director of Advancement has the exciting opportunity to take our development efforts to the next level. In this work, the Director can count on the full support of the Players’ staff and Board of Trustees.

- Develop multi-year, coordinated fundraising plan in preparation for major campaign
- Grow a major gifts program including identification, cultivation, and solicitation of major donors
- Oversee grant writing including research, proposal writing, and reporting requirements
- Assess and direct a growing annual fundraising program
- Develop and execute planned giving program Ensure accurate processing and recording of gift agreements, grants, and foundation grants
- Oversee maintenance of current donor database and undertake development research
- Supervise and work with Development Director, who is responsible for sale of program ads, securing corporate sponsorships, and providing support for the Director of Advancement.
- Collaborate with staff and Board on design, planning, and management of development events
- Work with Marketing Director to shape messaging and materials Maintain regular communications with donors
- Ensure timely and accurate reporting and deliverables to funders
- Make public appearances as necessary to share information about the Players with the community
- Staff the Development Committee of the Board of Trustees
Qualifications
- BA (required), MA (a plus)
- 5+ years fundraising experience
- Demonstrated success leading a range of development activities, with an emphasis on annual fund, major gifts, and comprehensive campaigns at a non-profit organization
- Foundation relationships and grant writing experience
- An entrepreneurial, self-starter attitude; ability to work both with and without supervision
- The desire to get out of the office and build external relationships
- Ability to think strategically with the senior staff and Board
- Ability to work with and motivate staff, board members, and volunteers
- Strong organizational skills
- Excellent skills in written and oral communication
- Ability to follow through on tasks and goals
- Common sense and a positive attitude
