Benefit Performance of Just So Stories for Recreation Allies Network, Saturday, June 27th

The Recreation Allies Network (RAN) is holding a fundraiser in collaboration with the Peterborough Players on Saturday, June 27 at 10:30 a.m. for a performance of Rudyard Kipling’s Just So Stories.

The children’s play is adapted and directed by Sevanne Martin and will be performed by the Peterborough Players Second Company of interns and apprentices. Proceeds from the performance will go to RAN (www.recreationallies.org), a nonprofit organization that supports inclusive recreation for people of all abilities.

RAN was created in December, 2007, by Molly Hajjar and Donna Brand in an effort to increase recreation and social opportunities for individuals of all ages and abilities in our area. Involvement in community life can be limited for people who experience a disability if they need the support of others in order to participate. RAN connects people through common interests and consists of members with and without disabilities; support can be given and received as needed, and everyone can enjoy recreation and leisure activities together.

RAN was first piloted at ConVal high school in 2007 and has included over 60 students. Members have enjoyed participation in over 105 events, including canoeing, pottery workshops, skiing, hiking, horseback riding, and going out for pizza and a movie. RAN’s philosophy is that inclusion promotes empowerment, which leads to success. Expansion of the Network is currently underway to include adult members and families in our community, as well as high school students at Conant High School in Jaffrey. 

Proceeds from the RAN fundraiser will be used to help sustain and expand the Network. Don’t miss it!
