The Wall Street Journal Review

The Wall Street Journal reviewed Tartuffe on opening night and gave it a great review!  Reviewer Terry Teachout praises Players’ Artistic Director Gus Kaikkonen’s original translation of Molière’s most popular play, and gives praise to the cast, set, and theatre as well.

“Mr. Peakes is a marvelously slick and sleazy Tartuffe who is handsome rather than oily-looking . . . . The contributions of his colleagues fit together as smoothly as the pieces of a hand-cut jigsaw puzzle . . . .”

Carmen Decker’s portrayal of Madame Pernelle is singled out as “best-in-show,” but it is perhaps the theatre as a whole that garners the highest praise:

“If I had to pick a single company to sum up the satisfyingly old-fashioned virtues of traditional American summer repertory theater at its most accomplished, this would be it.” We couldn’t agree more!
