We couldn’t be here without you! Thank you for your help in nurturing our award-winning professional theatre.

We hope you share our pride in continuing to offer exceptional theatre since 1933, and in expanding our cultural offerings during the off season to include The Metropolitan Opera in HD, London’s National Theatre Live, and more. In the Wings volunteer Judy Stockwell wins 2011 Spirit of New Hampshire Award

Judy Stockwell has been volunteering in one way or another as part of the In the Wings volunteer program at the Peterborough Players for more than 50 years! She was honored by Volunteer NH and the Office of the Governor with a 2011 Spirit of New Hampshire Award, in recognition of her devoted service to our nonprofit theatre.

There are few, if any, volunteer tasks that Judy has NOT done at the Players, from selling 50/50 raffle tickets to housing interns for the summer in her Peterborough home! Judy loves theatre and has attended almost every play at the Players.

The Players is proud of Judy, and pleased that she was honored with the Spirit Award. Judy was also featured in a front-page newspaper article about the award in the December 6th issue of The Monadnock Ledger-Transcript.

Tom Frey Wins Award for Best Equity Actor of 2011 Season

Actor Tom Frey was awarded the coveted Flanders Award at a surprise presentation during the annual Gala & Auction: Travels with Charlie on November 5th, 2011.

The Flanders Award (established in a bequest from the late Charles Flanders), is given to the best performance by an Equity Actor during each season, as voted on by the Peterborough Players’ Board of Trustees.

Emcee Kraig Swartz and actress Bridget Beirne provided entertainment with Tom during the Gala & Auction. Immediately after performing a song together, Managing Director Keith Stevens surprised Tom by announcing that he had won the 2011 Flanders Award; in addition to the honor, he was awarded with a $1,000 check.

Tom first wowed Players’ audiences in the 2010 production of 2 Pianos 4 Hands. The Players brought Tom back for three productions in the 2011 season: Ancestral Voices, Arms and the Man, and Doctor Knock. Critics and audiences alike heaped praise on Tom during the season for his work on all of the productions. Tom accepted the award with gratitude to the Players for bringing him back last season and for recognizing his acting abilities, independent of the piano playing prowess he demonstrated in his role in 2 Pianos. The audience was once again on its feet with applause for the talented actor!

If You Can't Make It to the Auction . . .

If for some reason you cannot come to the Annual Gala & Auction: Travels with Charlie on Nov. 5, but you would like to bid on some of the items, there are two ways to do it:

1) You can leave what’s called a “left” bid — tell the Players’ office the dollar limit you are willing to bid up to on either a LIVE or SILENT item. The bid will be made for you, and you will be notified if you have won.

2) You can opt for a “phone-in” bid — phone-in bids are for the LIVE items only. You can arrange with the Players’ office to be telephoned shortly before your item is up for bid. Then, you communicate with Players’ staff by telephone in real time while the desired item is up for bid, and place your bids accordingly.

If you are interested in doing either or both of the above, please call or email the Players’ office to set it up!

Wall Street Journal Praises Ancestral Voices

The Wall Street Journal’s drama critic, Terry Teachout, reviewed the Players’ Ancestral Voices, by A.R. Gurney. Mr. Teachout says, “Mr. Kaikkonen’s cast is exemplary, with top honors going to David S. Howard... . The soft-spoken delicacy of Mr. Howard’s performance is but one highlight of a show rich in understated pleasures.”
