2023- 2024 Arts on Screen
News from the Players
The Peterborough Players is pleased to announce Charles “Chuck” Morey will serve as interim Producing Artistic Director for our 91st year. Chuck has been associated with the theatre in a variety of roles (actor, artistic director, playwright) since 1969. As the Players’ artistic director from 1977-1988, he more than doubled seasonal attendance and inaugurated a highly successful New Plays Program which ultimately sent one play to Broadway and five to Off- Broadway productions. During his tenure, alongside Ellen Dinerstein, he guided the theatre as it transitioned from family management to a formal institutional structure. From 1984 through 2012 he served as Artistic Director of the Pioneer Theatre Company in Salt Lake City.
Over the next 12 months, Chuck Morey will play an integral part as the Players conducts a national search for its next leadership team. The Players’ large number of dedicated and loyal alumni, many of whom launched notable theatre careers in the barn on Hadley Road, have given the Players a national profile that promises to attract a passionate new generation of leaders for this theatre as it nears its 100th anniversary.
We are deeply indebted to Tom Frey, who stepped in as Artistic Director to lead the Players through the major disruptions of COVID, keeping the theatre afloat while ensuring that the staff and patrons remained safe. Tom has been a well-received ambassador, helping to articulate the Players’ vision and commitment to artistic excellence. We have enjoyed seeing him on stage as an actor with the company since 2010, and we look forward to seeing him at the Players as an
actor and director in the future.
We are so very thankful for your continued support of the Players, and we look forward to your meeting Chuck if you do not already know him.
With Gratitude,
James Potter, President of the Board of Trustees
