It's a Wonderful Life:
A Live Radio Play
Adapted by Joe Landry from the screenplay by Frances Goodrich, Albert Hackett, Frank Capra and Jo Swerling
The cast and director discuss this wonderful adaptation of the beloved holiday classic!
The Players bring Frank Capra’s much-loved holiday film It’s a Wonderful Life, to our stage as a high-spirited 1947 radio broadcast, with period music and live Foley sound effects, all in the style of A Prairie Home Companion. The scene is the elegant stage of a Manhattan radio studio inhabited by Players favorites Tom Frey, Bridget Beirne, Kraig Swartz and Leon Axt. They are joined by Eleanor Pierson and Emily Allinson to bring George Bailey, Zuzu, Clarence the Angel, and the Ebenezer Scrooge-like, Mr. Potter to vivid life, in a performance seasoned with period radio commercials, and a lost post-war elegance. Watch hard-working, idealistic George Bailey learn what he means to his family and his town, and how, one fateful Christmas night he helps a hapless angel earn his wings. Rated G
